Weekly Update: 6/6/22

It's the beginning of another new week here on Planet Zone and time for another update! I hope you guys are enjoying Spooky Summer. We'll be enjoying some of the more scarier things out there at a higher volume mixed in the the regular content until August when Halloween moves in! It's a lot of fun and a great way to spend the scorching heat of summer time. This is where I'd make a pun about the chills or something cooling you down if I were a better blogger.

This weekend was a much more relaxed weekend than normal. I didn't do a weekend report last week due to the holiday. Which was a busy weekend with a lot of shopping in between relaxing. We needed new clothes and got some fun stuff as well! This weekend was mostly spent at home aside from a few errands. Thanks to dropping the Mrs's car off to get a tire fixed taking most of the day, I didn't get much sleep between those errands and random phone call from the shop when they managed to work us in.

I did work in a pleasant supper of a Morning Star vegetarian buffalo chicken sandwich with some Nathan's crinkle cut fries. I've mentioned my low sodium diet before here and those vegetarian buffalo wings and fries are pretty compatible while being really good. I honestly look forward to eating them and make it a weekend thing. Just right while watching Obi-Wan and some paranormal television. Followed it up with some nice watermelon chunks.

Sunday was spent playing with some toys from the backlog and napping. I finally played with Legacy Kickback and man I love him. As long time readers know, I do enjoy insect bots. No clue why, just do. Meant to crack open Laser Optimus Prime, just didn't get to it. I really need to play with my Gundam Infinity figures. I got the complete set for Christmas and have a fun plan for them in the future. We ate lunch at my Mom's house. My brother, his wife, and their youngest daughter was there as well. My brother and I worked the grill and cooked up some great T-bones and hamburger sliders.

Afterwords the Mrs and I meant to do some yard work, but that just didn't happen. I also meant to organize my toy room this weekend, but that didn't happen either. Oh well, there's always next weekend. Now that it's summer, we're prone to staying home more. So it'll get done. I didn't buy any toys this weekend, but I did get something I've been wanting for making TikTok and Reels. You'll see.

My little videos have been hit or miss, but I've had something in mind for them for a while now. No time like now to get working on that! I meant to find my light tent for this project, but must have put it somewhere other than I remembered. An alternative was constructed in it's absence for the time being. It's been a minute since I've done toy posts here on the site, and a while since doing them on the socials. They'll be back, but without the TV tray. Well, mostly. I do like that thing.

I've got a fun week in mind for you all. A little heads up, there's going to be an extra bio post this week. I've mentioned before that most content is made in advance and the holiday week threw that off a little. Good thing I like bios posts and you guys clearly like reading them. It won't be 100%, but they'll be a little scarier for summer. We're in for a spooky summer before the pumpkin spiced mayhem and a lot of fun here on Zone Base. Thank you for reading and please don't forget to share with your friends.

Weekly Halloween: Spooky Summer Approaches

Spring turns into summer, and Summer is a Spooky Season. Long time readers know I have a tradition around here, and that's observing the scary nature of summer as the lead up to Halloween. Sure, everyday is Halloween on Planet Zone. However when it's actually Halloween time, we go nuts. A solid 5 months of macabre and mayhem! But before the pumpkin spice flows, there's summer. The little peeps and peaks of our favorite season begin working their way into our spaces. The term that's most recently been used is Code Orange, and that's pretty appropriate as June the spooky signal starts flickering on.

May began with Walpurgis Night and you've been noticing all month people celebrating Halfway to Halloween. The weather where you're at may vary, but Memorial Day has always been the unofficial beginning of summer for me. That's next week. So Monday will be a holiday and you all will have to forgive me for taking a day off. When I come back on Tuesday, the Spooky Summer will begin. Friday the 13th took place at a summer camp and ghost season in some countries is in summer. Between all those bright colors and festive fireworks, is something scary. Summer is a spooky season.

While the regular content will stay the same around here, there will be more of a slant towards the scarier stuff (BTW, turn on the captions on the video above if you need help understanding what they're saying). There will be more and more posts about scary toys, cartoons, games, and maybe a paranormal post or two (hundred). All leading up to August, when the pumpkins come out. At this point, I know you all love it. However, if you're new to the Base...

Hold onto your dooky, summer is spooky.

It's Not A Curse, It's Just Monday

Looks like it's the start of a brand new week here on Planet Zone! There's a new episode of Not As Brightly Lit up for your weekly dose of something spooky. This is the first show that I've posted a old time radio show and it seemed to be pretty popular. If you like such a thing, there'll be more coming! Also, for readers who've used the email subscription service. That service has been discontinued. Until I find a replacement, I've removed the option from the site. I'm not sure how much longer it will work. If you just stop getting the email posts... I guess it finally stopped. Thanks to those of you who participated in it. Hopefully I'll get it restored sooner than later. I've got a fun week of posts coming that I hope you all like. Thank you for reading Zone Base and as always please share with your friends!

Replay: Friday The 13th

It's Friday the 13th! The second one of 2020, which considering how this year has went since the last one...

I've been a life long horror fan, but that doesn't mean I like all horror. I have the stuff I prefer and the stuff I could care less about. In college I discovered The Ring a few years before the US remake came out. This lead into me learning more about J-Horror and discovering Japanese ghost videos.

I like to watch various paranormal TV and regularly watch ghost videos as is. These Japanese ones normally come from paranormal TV shows playing spooky clips. They'll display the message 'Replay' before repeating the clip giving you a chance to spot the scary ghost. It's pretty fun to watch these and try to spot the scary stuff. Like all ghost videos, I don't believe everything I'm seeing, but I'm entertained.

Unlike my younger days, I'm no longer getting bootlegged copies of these videos on VHS/VCD. Between Youtube and a few other choice places (dude, Facebook video is awesome) I can watch them whenever, wherever. Since I regularly post paranormal videos here anyway, I thought it was time for a new tag. So if you see 'Replay' in the post tags, follow that rabbit hole.

Godzilla's Ghost

Godzilla is a giant fire breathing monster that will destroy your city. Even if he's the good guy in the scenario, he's going to destroy the city. What I'm saying is, he's a giant threat. That's why they killed him with the Oxygen Destroyer. Thing is, he's not the only Godzilla. Depending on the continuity represented, there's been maybe two or three of the giant monsters.

That's where Ghost Godzilla comes in. For a time, Toho planned on bringing back the original Godzilla as a ghost to fight the then current Godzilla. To end the Heisei series, Toho planned on the two Godzilla monsters to fight it out. One of the ideas for this was to have the ghost of the original Godzilla posses Little Godzilla, and grow into a frightening giant new Godzilla (see the above picture). Ultimately the idea was dropped as the past two movies had alternate versions of Godzilla starring (Mechagodzilla, Space Godzilla). Though I don't think the idea went away.

In 2001, Toho released Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (GMK). What does this have to do with Ghost Godzilla? Look at the picture above of the GMK Godzilla, which is not your average Godzilla. GMK Godzilla is the result of those who died in the Pacific Theater during World War II taking revenge on Japan for forgetting it's past. In so many ways, he's a giant hell spawn brought into existence by the souls of the dead. Lot's of Ghosts Godzilla.

Hey, think that's all the spooky shit Toho did with Godzilla? In 2002 Toho revealed the coolest incarnation of Mechagodzilla- Kiryu! What's so spooky about a robot Godzilla? Remember that whole 'original Godzilla' from 1954 I was talking about? In this movies continuity where that Godzilla died and the current Godzilla terrorized Japan so much that they used the skeleton of the original Godzilla to create Kiryu. A skeleton? You know the almost universal symbol of spookiness? Yes, The original Godzilla's skeleton is inside this thing leading to it being possessed by it's ghost.

So basically Mechagodzilla is Ghost Godzilla finally realized. Which isn't too bad as Kiryu rights his former life's wrongs and becomes a hero. That's the opposite of the original intent of Ghost Godzilla, but still pretty creepy to think inside that is a skeleton in possesion of it. I'd love a ghost story of one of JXSDF inside the mech haunted by Godzilla's ghost. A giant haunted house robot. To add to his inert yurei nature, those red lines running down from his eyes? They light up red and are intended to simulate bloody tears. Damn Toho, that's dark!

You're not you when you're dead in a well

So... yeah... The whole Ring thing doesn't work the same in today's world huh? I mean, sure, it's not like there isn't allegedly cursed videos floating around the internet as is. Though I'd think it'd be a whole lot easier to get that sucker watched by someone else and the curse off you quick. I mean, just email that sucker to a co-worked you don't like. Man... if that joker makes it to Facebook, we're all screwed.
