Who's the One Having Pumpkin Spiced Mayhem?

~The red moon has appeared in the skies of Planet Zone as it has since named Planet Micro. With it, the Bloody Zone opens and its foulest contents pour out. Till all are none.~

It's the first week of August, and that means it's time to set the pumpkins out. Hang a cardboard skeleton on your door. Light a candle and watch leaves blow in the wind with that quiet sound only fall can bring.

It's time for the world to get spooky.

It's Halloween.

Okay... it's still summer.

I know, I don't care.

Like every year, Halloween starts in August and runs for three months on Zone Base. Is that excessive? Yes. Look at it this way: there's been Halloween stuff filtering into stores since June, August is Ghost Month in several Asian countries, and besides, it's fun as hell.

If this is your first Halloween season on Zone Base, you're in for a treat. All the normal content still goes on as usual, with a little something sinister mixed in and spooky season bonus posts in between.

We're going trick-or-treating for the next three months, Zone Base readers. Put on a mask and grab your pillowcase.

It's time for Zone Base Halloween.

Black cats and goblins and broomsticks and ghosts,
Covens of witches with all of their hosts.
You may think they scare me, you're probably right.
Black cats and goblins on Halloween night...

Trick or treat!

Changing Gears

I've been experimenting with the way I handle things around the site. I put a lot of time and energy into Zone Base and always try to make it a better overall experience. For the longest time, there wasn't really a regular posting schedule. I just posted whenever I wanted. Eventually, that turned into posting nearly every day before settling into the rhythm I've had for the past few years.

Lately though, that rhythm has started feeling more like a rut. It became content for the sake of content, as long as I followed my schedule, and I'd be way too hard on myself whenever I couldn't.

Guys, I make exactly zero dollars from this site. It's simply an extension of my hobby and my way of enjoying all this fun stuff with you. If I *did* make money from Zone Base, I'd probably be even more militant about sticking to a schedule.

One of the reasons I've always tried to post regularly is because it's always seemed strange to me when a website goes silent for months, then suddenly posts again like nothing ever happened. Sure, life happens, and sometimes people just can't update. That's completely understandable. But let your readers know what's going on, especially if you're making money from the site. In my mind, those readers deserve that courtesy.

I've always felt like too many people take their audience for granted, and I refuse to do that with all of you.

Zone Base isn't some giant website, and I'm certainly no influencer. But the site gets thousands of views every day. There aren't words that can fully express how flattering and humbling that is to me. Thank you all so much for taking time out of your day just to read whatever nonsense I've decided to write about.

With all that in mind, and with the goal of making both the site better and my life a little easier, I'm changing the posting schedule. I think it's going to lead to higher-quality posts and, ultimately, a better experience for everyone. They'll probably be a few adjustments as I go, but here's the plan.

**Monday**

The Weekly Update posts have become surprisingly popular, so I'm going to expand them a bit. I'll still talk about what I did over the weekend and any toy pickups (I seriously doubt anyone is interested in the drawstring cargo shorts I found at Burlington), but I'm also going to use them to talk about things happening in the hobby. A new toy line? A new game? Something interesting that's been announced? It'll all have a place here.

**Tuesday**

Random Day!

This is where the Godzilla, He-Man, and other non-Transformers topics will live. I'm also expanding "random" to include robot lines adjacent to Transformers. Maybe I want to talk about a BeastBOX figure, one of those cool Nano Block-style mechs from Daiso, or even a GoBot. They'll all fit here.

The biggest change is that if I don't have something substantial to say, there simply won't be a Tuesday post.

Previously, I'd sometimes throw up a video or something with very little text because I felt like I *had* to post something. Not anymore. I'd rather post something worth reading than post just to fill a space on the calendar.

**Wednesday**

Wednesday becomes the week's main Transformers feature.

Instead of two shorter Transformers or robot-related posts every week, expect one larger, more substantial article.

Transformers model kits will probably continue taking center stage because they're a blast to build and write about, and you all have made it pretty clear you enjoy them too. But don't worry, regular Transformers toys aren't going anywhere. I still want to continue things like my quest to cover every Cyberworld toy.

I also want to get back to writing more articles that aren't necessarily toy reviews. Maybe it's an episode of the cartoon, a character, a piece of history, or just an experience I've had with the franchise. I miss writing those kinds of posts, and I think they'll make Wednesday feel like the week's "Main Event."

**Occasional or Special Posts**

Sometimes something happens and I just want to talk about it *right now*. Those posts aren't going away. They'll happen whenever inspiration strikes or whenever there's something worth talking about.

**Social Media**

Zone Base has never had a huge social media presence. Most of the sharing has always been through my personal accounts. I did create a Zone Base Facebook page to make sharing easier, and while it doesn't have a huge following, that's perfectly fine.

I've also started treating Instagram and TikTok as extensions of the site rather than separate things. I've been making TikTok videos, sharing them to Instagram as Reels, and even using those videos as the images for some of my posts.

Going forward, you'll probably see more content there that doesn't necessarily become a full blog post here on Zone Base. Those oddball videos I mentioned earlier? Social media is probably where they'll end up. There are links here on the site, and over the next few days I'll be looking for ways to integrate them even better. If you'd like to give me a follow, I'd certainly appreciate it.

Starting this week, Zone Base will officially move to this new format, with the first new Weekly Update arriving next week.

Don't worry—Halloween is still happening exactly as it always does, with Halloween posts appearing before the regular scheduled posts. Beast Summer isn't going anywhere either. July is still going to be packed with beast-themed content, not just here on the site, but across the social media pages as well.

I hope you all enjoy the changes, and I hope they make Zone Base an even better place to visit.

As always, thank you for reading, thank you for sharing the site with your friends, and as always... be excellent to each other.

Welcome to Earth

It's time for another holiday week here on Planet Zone!

After spending the past few weeks moving, I've got plenty of organizing and unpacking left to do over the next few days. Though I'm also hoping to squeeze in some time with the new Star Fox game and maybe take a dip in the pool with the Mrs.

Being a holiday week, we've got an abbreviated posting schedule around the site, with things returning to normal next week. Sometimes it's nice to slow down just a little and enjoy summer while it's here.

I hope everyone enjoys their holiday, stays cool in the summer heat, and gets to spend some time doing something fun.

Thank you all for reading Zone Base. I truly appreciate your support and ask that you please share the site with your friends.

And as always...

Be excellent to each other.

Home Base

Normally, this is where I'd post a Weekly Update and talk about what I did over the weekend and what fun stuff I picked up.

Well, I moved.

I moved from my home of the past six years to a new place just a few miles away. It's an upgrade, sure, but it's also a lot of work. I'm writing this a few days ahead of time, already knowing I'm going to be dead-ass tired by the time you read it.

Normal posting will continue this week, but today... I'm sleeping in.

Thank you all for reading Zone Base. Please share the site with your friends and be excellent to each other.

Halfway to Halloween – Signal Check

It’s that time again.

Not quite October, not even close really… but close enough that the signal starts to feel familiar if you’ve been paying attention.

I’ve always liked this stretch of the year for that exact reason. It’s not Halloween yet, but it’s also not not Halloween.

Halfway to Halloween is just a little week of leaning into it. Nothing too heavy. Nothing over the top. Just a few posts that let the season peek through the cracks a little early while everything else is still spring.

10 Years Later…

10 years ago, I made the first post here on Zone Base.

I say “first post” because I actually started building the site back in 2014. Then it just… sat there for a while, waiting for me to get over the self-doubt and just do it.

So I took baby steps. At first, I focused only on Transformers before eventually branching out into other things.

I was nervous.

Unsure of myself.

That probably sounds silly now, but it’s the truth. I knew what I wanted to make—I just wasn’t entirely sure how to make it. So I took my time.

That first Halloween, it was just “spooky” Transformers content—mostly bios. The first year of Zone Base was a lot of experimenting, mixed with the occasional post that did surprisingly well.

In 2017, I started using the slogan “Transformers and Other Strangeness,” inspired by a copy of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles & Other Strangeness role playing game I’ve had since I was a kid. Not long after that, the “robots / monsters / misadventure ハロウィン” idea clicked into place and became the permanent identity of the site.

Somehow, this little podunk site became the most stubborn thing I’ve ever done. And I’ve kept it going for 10 years now.

In a way, it’s me firmly flipping the bird to the world.

10 years—and millions of views—later… I’m still flipping that bird.

And a lot of you are flipping it with me.

Thank you.

New Week, Old Year

Well Zone Base readers, Christmas has come and gone, putting us squarely in that strange, time-nebulous stretch of days between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Like many of you, I’ve got a few work days wedged in between the holiday breaks and feel completely lost in time.

It’s actually Sunday as I’m writing this, since I’m doing another odd Sunday shift to offset being off on New Year’s Eve. Thus is the life of a graveyard shift CNC programmer—working extra weird hours during the holidays. Of course, you’re all aware this is another holiday week with abbreviated posting here on the site. I’m sure many of you are also juggling strange schedules, or maybe you’re off entirely for the holidays.

Honestly, I’m surprised if anyone is taking the time to read this. However, if you are, thank you. And for those of you who aren’t… I totally understand. I hope everyone had a great Christmas and is enjoying this weird in-between time until New Year’s.

I’ve got just one post this week, but don’t fret—we’re ending the year on a doozy of a toy. Regular posting will resume next week, I promise. Thank you all for reading, don’t forget to share with your friends, and be excellent to each other.

Happy Thanksgiving, Zone Base readers!

I don’t know how many of you are reading this today, but I’m thankful for everyone who visits the site and checks out what I’ve got to say. Even though I don’t make a fuss over it, I’ve always enjoyed Thanksgiving—watching the big parade, spending time with family, enjoying the great food, and, of course, the tryptophan naps.

The holiday break is a great time to rest and recharge… something I definitely could use right about now. And, of course, there’s the joy of diving into some Christmas shopping on Friday! Nothing like throwing a few elbows in Walmart to kick off the season. By now, we’re all digesting our food… and maybe the new episodes of Stranger Things too. Thank you all for supporting Zone Base—don’t forget to share it with your friends. I hope you win the wishbone and enjoy the day! Mutual High Fives, everyone!

Happy Halloween 2025!

It's the main event, Halloween is here Zone Base readers! Happy Halloween! Thank you for celebrating my favorite time of year with me again. As much as I love putting up the decorations and handing out the candy, Pumpkin Spiced Mayhem is one of my favorite things to do each year and I'm so happy to have spent it with you all. Speaking of you all, this year we've reached all new highs. A record breaking metric ton of you all showed up to go trick or treating with me this Halloween season.

Thank you all so much for coming and reading Zone Base. I really do appreciate each and every one of you all for supporting my little site. Normal posting will resume next week as we pack away the pumpkins and skeletons for another year. But don't worry, every day is Halloween on Zone Base! There's always monsters creeping out and random scares around every corner! Once again, thank you all for reading and remember to check your candy before you eat it. Mutual Spooky High Fives everyone!

Happy Labor Day!

It's not just Monday, it's Labor Day, meaning I'm enjoying a 3-Day weekend! Personally, I could use the break. Don't think just because I'm taking the day off that things around the site are going to slack off. Nope, regular posting resumes tomorrow. Know what? Since Labor Day is a holiday for those who work, let's take a look at some robots who do a lot of work building things! While we're doing that, the Halloween party is still going strong... and your local stores may have started stocking their Halloween stuff now that Labor Day is signaling the end of summer and beginning of fall. Thank you all for reading Zone Base. I put a lot of work into the site each week without any ads or pointing to tip jars. Nope. All I ask is that you share the site with your friends and to be excellent to each other. Weird huh? Mutual High Fives everyone!

Shin Pumpkin Spiced Mayhem

~The red moon has appeared in the skies of Planet Zone as it has since named Planet Micro. With it the Bloody Zone opens and it's foulest contents pours out. Till all are none.~

Trick or Treat Zone Base readers, it's time again for the annual Zone Base Halloween party! It's my favorite time of year and I love to spend it with you all! It's Halloween on the site and we're going to spend the next 3 months trick or treating with robots and monsters!

It's too early?

Hogwash.

Halloween starts appearing at stores in JUNE, there's literally spooky shit at your local stores right now. Not to mention, August is generally a spooky time in some Asian countries. Telling ghost stories is a surefire way to send a chill up your spine on a hot summer night. There's Obon in Japan, Hungry Ghost Festival in others... this Halloween party isn't too early, just others are late. Late to the party, but we're not because it starts right now! Thank you all for reading Zone Base. We've got a fun spooky season ahead. Please don't forget to share your treats with your friends and Monster High Fives everyone!

Merry Christmas, I'm Freezing my Ass Off

It's not just the start of a new week here on Zone Base, but the beginning of two consecutive holiday weeks. I'm sure you all are aware that Christmas is this week and New Years is next... and frankly I'm surprised anyone is reading this. I know you all are busy enjoying the holidays with your loved ones and so am I! Actually, I'm balancing a weird offset work schedule split up with various days off for the next two weeks. I hope you all understand site content will be a little sporadic. There's going to be some content... just not as much as normal. Don't worry, regular posting will resume after next week. Until then, I hope you all enjoy the holidays and want to thank you all so much for reading Zone Base. Please don't forget to share the site with your friends and Merry Christmas!

Pumpkin Spiced Mayhem 2024!

It's the first week of August and you know what that means... IT'S HALLOWEEN TIME ON PLANET ZONE! That's right, 3 whole months of Pumpkin Spiced Mayhem from now until Halloween! For readers that are new to the site, Halloween is my favorite time of the year and I love it so. To celebrate, between every regular post is a Halloween post. Sometimes it's nostalgic, maybe weird, or downright obscure. This year, we're stepping it up a notch and even the regular posts are a little spooky for the season!

The Halloween Playlist is back again as well! Bigger and better than ever for 2024 with more than 10 hours worth of scary tunes. It's a Spotify playlist, so if you're listening on random, it's practically a new experience every time! Thank you so much for coming to the annual Zone Base Halloween party and celebrating the best time of the year with me. Put on a costume and crack open a glow stick, it's time to go trick or treating for the next 3 months!

It's Halfway 2 Halloween Time!

Good news Zone Base readers, we're Halfway to Halloween! The spooky season is our favorite time of the year on Planet Zone and halfway there gives us a chance to have a little mini celebration. I like to start observing the occasion at the start of Walpurgis Night as it feels not only appropriate, but downright on brand. It's literally a Halloween in the middle of the year. This little springtime bit of Pumpkin Spiced Mayhem will be going on for the next two weeks.

Halloween on Zone Base veterans know regular site content will continue as normal, but there'll be a little trick or treat in between each post. Something spooky, nostalgic, or obscure... it's a bit of a mixed bad. Thank you all for reading Zone Base. I've got a fun two weeks in store for you with some orange and black wrapping. Please don't forget to share the site with your friends and Mutual High Fives all around!

Happy New Year! It's hard to believe another year has come and gone already, but I'm ready to take 2024 HEAD ON! I've got some content planned for the week, but I'm sure you all understand I'll be taking most of the week off. Thanks to each and everyone of you for reading Zone Base!
