Generation MSX

This won't be the first time I've wistfully looked at MSX commercials on the site and wished I could have been one of those lucky kids to grow up with one. I'll even admit, the grass is usually greener on the other side of the fence. However, I don't think any amount of realistic thinking or applied rationale could make up for a lifetime of being in awe. Like I said before, thanks to older gaming magazines, there was something badass and punk rock about playing games on an MSX. I fully understand just how stupid that sounds now, but at the time that was the impression that I got because they made it sound just so hardcore. To be honest... I think I was right.

LG Optimus

Sometimes I forget the more weird Transformers promoted items. During the heyday of the live action movies, there was the LG Optimus phones which of course had a promotional deal with Dark of the Moon. I had an LG Optimus for a while myself, though admittedly I bought mine for the low price during Black Friday sales at the time. It wasn't until I got it home that I noticed it was an Optimus.

Galactic Heroes from Cybertron

I like Transformers Armada. I liked it then, I like it now. I enjoy looking back at the fun time I had with it and at various alternate versions of it. For example, this commercial for the Korean version of Armada called Galactic Heroes: Cybertrons. It's funny how just something simple like another language, different music, and a new logo can make something you've seen a million times look new.

Looking back at the Gamera VMU game I was talking about yesterday and the catch 'em all-ness of Armada... man that really was a trope of it's time huh? Late 90's/Early 2000's, that was a general thing. I wonder why a Tamogochi style game for Armada didn't happen? I would be surprised if one did and I didn't know about it. The little oddball things usually get passed over by the news sites, but at the time they literally reported everything. So I guess I would have known.

Zemmix MSX console

MSX seemed much more exotic that it was when I was a kid. A computer standard popular in Japan and other countries, MSX seemed like gaming wonderland thanks to games magazines of the time. Like other popular with gamers home computers of the time, there was console versions that could be converted into into full versions of said home computer. I guess it was really just a budget friendly way to slide into a system.

I kind of miss those days. Sure now I can grab a cheapo PC at Walmart for a few hundred dollars... or even a basic tablet for under a hundred and cover my basic home needs for a computer. Then it was the wild west and convincing Dad I wasn't just going to play games on it was... aside from the occasional school project I was just going to play games on it. But Dad, that occasional school project...

Robocop loves fried chicken

Robocop is fucking awesome. This is a fact, there's no arguing that. Water is wet, green means go, Robocop is fucking awesome. I've never had Lotte ham fried chicken before, and honestly I didn't need Robocop to make me want some. That sounds amazing and next time I'm at H-Mart I'm gonna try to get some. Though, having Robocop sell me ham fried chicken by Lotte? Simply amazing, I'm there. Man... there's literally NOTHING that dude can't sling.

Korean GIJOE childrens sneakers

It sure has been a while since I delved into the world of Korean licensed children's shoe commercials. I don't know why either, each time I do it's completely amazing. Here in America, licensed characters on shoes hardly get a spot in a stores sales papers, let alone a TV commercial. These productions alone are worth the view and man this one is some kind of wonderful.

Our host is on an adventure for some sweet new kicks. Fortunately he's in the exact jungle that has a pair of velcro GIJOE sneaks that feature Falcon about to shoot a fool just lying around. I assume it's Falcon, could be Flint... soldier man in beret YO JOE! What's really notable is that dope hard plastic carrying case the shoes come in. It seems as if the shoes come with a sticker and the host implies we can put other stickers on the case... that just blew my mind. Though, what am I to wear while carrying my shoes in that carrying case?

Ronin Mecha on Tubi

I've mentioned on here before my love of Korean rip off robot anime. Hell, I've posted a few. There's just a charm of those dollar bin robot cartoons full of stolen robot designs in adventures that I guess form a plot. Look, I don't think I really need to explain why Diaclone Inferno... I mean... you know what site you're on right?

So I was perusing Tubi earlier and discovered they've begun hosting a ton of them. Now as a series called Ronin Mecha. Like putting them together as a movie series, which makes sense considering some of them are literally made from others re-edited together. It's great to see them constantly add to their collection of Super Robot cartoons on Tubi. For the record I love Tubi and I'm sure if you're a Zone Base reader you're probably a fan too. It's practically the streaming service of Zone Base.

Space Gundam V (1983)

I've been super busy, as I've noted here before. So what happens when Rob's really busy? That's right, more shady Korean robot cartoons of dubious legality! This is Space Gundam V, which despite the name does not feature any actual Gundam. Nope, instead what if a Valkyrie fought monsters?

Our Friend Power 5 (1989)

I've been a lot busier in the past few days than I'd like to be. Times like these call for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles piloting Courageous the Gobot in another Korean movie of dubious legalities.

Raiders of Galaxy

Know what, how about another public domain Korean super robot cartoon featuring *ahem* familiar looking robots? Will I ever get tired of posting them? Nope.

Defenders of Space/Phoenix King

Apparently this is also in public domain, which is only fair as they stole the design for Phoenix King from the Diaclone version of Inferno.

They were also bold enough to market a toy of Phoenix King.

Which was a bootleg Inferno.

Mecard turning up

A few months ago, I said noted on the neatness of Mecard and had hoped it would start turning up here in the US. I guess I'm psychic as I found it at Target the other day as well as heard from others that they've seen it a far as a few weeks back. That's great. I've noticed a really similar line to it in the car toys section of stores usually next to the Havox Machines toys in recent months. I guess it's not too surprising as it's been popping up in Canada that it would find it's way here. I was tempted to get some but passed for the moment (had like a million things to buy, so didn't exactly feel like buying anything else), but may grab some soon. They're certainly neat and after marveling at their ads for a bit now, I'd be foolish to pass a super easy opportunity to pick a few up. Especially as they're at my local Target.

Korean Power Rangers intro (1994)

This is neat. Basically the original Korean Power Rangers is somewhat lost in time, but a fan made a restoration using a found MP3 of the theme. Really neat. Korean Power Rangers is usually the Super Sentai series with just Power Rangers slapped onto the title in place of Super Sentai, though some use of American Power Rangers did get used over there. This is so neat to me as I've mentioned before my interest in Korean robot shows and the way Power Rangers is handled worldwide is sometimes baffling. You got a Japanese show, edited with English scenes to make an American show, then dubbed in Korean. Or you get the straight Japanese show dubbed in Korean and released with the American shows title.

SF X Fantasy Rayforce

I regularly talk about how awesome Korean shows are and I freaking mean it. SF X Fantasy Rayforce wasn't fully made, but this music video promo shows just how awesome it would have been.

Turning Mecard

Turning Mecard from what I understand is a Korean robot toy line that's being introduced in Canada and Australia. I'd like to see it here in the states. The optimistic person that I am, I would think this would sell well here. Even if it didn't, it'd be nice to get a few without paying import prices. I may sometime swing by my local H-Mart and see if any has appeared there. It doesn't happen often, but every blue moon some neat toys will pop up.

Armada/Galaxy Hero Cybertron Commercial

Interestingly enough, on Korean television, Armada was called Galaxy Hero Cybertron.

Korean Car Robots sneakers commercial

Now this one is fun and also has me wishing for a pair. I'm sure they'd be just the thing for a trip to Target. The little dart game isn't as neat as the robot toys from the past few commercials, but it's still a neat piece of swag.

Korean Super Human Samurai Syber Squad/Gridman Sneakers commercial

Honestly, it's the original animation that's really got my interest in this one. The little included robot toy is also pretty familiar, I believe I've seen it a few times in discount toy lines at discount stores. I may be prompted to pick one up now.

Korean Microman sneakers

While I'm normally happy with a good pair of Nike's, my recent journey down the rabbit hole of Korean licensed sneakers (this is Zone Base, remember) has rewarded me with all sorts of goodies. This Microman sneaker commercial is freaking sweet! It's the late 90's incarnation of Microman, which I wish I had gotten more into when it was cheaper, and I'll put this bluntly. WHO IS THAT TANK? At first I thought it was a reuse of the G2 Megatron mold that I was unaware of but upon better inspection... it's a different toy. I'm not even remotely in the know about that guy and looking at various Microman pages has still left me in the dark (admittedly I was excited and might have skimmed over his entry). Though I recognize the mold, I've seen it knocked off in a million places.

Whoah, Korean sneaker commercials are awesome. 

Consider this a fair warning that there's going to be a good bit of Korean sneaker commercials posted tonight. I'm skimming through them as I work. It's great!

DinoCore looks pretty great

I've recently stumbled onto DinoCore and wow that looks great. I'm about a year behind on this one, but wow, that looks really cool. Here's hoping it get's put out on Netflix or YouTube like Miniforce and I can enjoy it. Really dig those bots. Looks like a fun cartoon.

*edit* Just discovered it is indeed on YouTube with English subtitles. Welp, know what I'm watching.
