Eat something Scary

Heinz Scarios were a spooky shaped pasta in sauce available throughout the 80's in Canada. For the record, I'm very jealous of those of you in Canada who were able to eat these. They look amazing. Admittedly I'd probably eat them all year, but it would be perfect on a cold October night spent inside watching Sleepy Hollow.

Marshmallow Brains and other Strangeness

Man, it's hard to believe it's already Halloween. Ok, that's redundant. Everyday is Halloween on Planet Zone! Now that we've all put away our trees and are starting the new year, it's time to get the spooky stuff back out! It won't be until August when the annual Halloween party starts here on the site. But as regular readers know, there's always something strange in this neighborhood.

A YouTuber I enjoy recently released a wonderful video with a spooky twist. Normally the channel features fun looks at odd items. Small toys, household item, stationary, and even food with weird twists get shown. Sometimes though, he looks at more scary items, which is what brings us to today. I watched this, loved it, and wanted to share it with all of you. Trick or Treat Zone Base readers. Every day is Halloween.

Codzilla: King Of The Sammiches

I'm a sucker for clever marketing. Red Lobster decided to hop on the Godzilla bandwagon (thanks to a certain popular movie) and market their new Crispy Cod Sandwich as Codzilla. Why would they do such a thing you may ask? Because it's HUGE. Needless to say I was sold and had one Saturday night. This was mentioned during the Mortal Kombat post. It's a pretty big deal.

I picked up the bun and put it back down, as it wades toward the TV tray in the center of my living room. Codzilla.

Codzilla, as you'd expect from a seafood restaurant was a fried fish sandwich. An enormous piece of cod on a tasty brioche bun with cole slaw and tarter sauce. Thankfully the tartar sauce was served on the side as I don't care for the stuff. Like everything else though, I did squirt some ketchup on it. It's not an official tie in or anything, so really I bought $80 worth of Red Lobster because of a image and I'm not one bit sorry. Do you know what it's like to eat left over mozzarella sticks for three days? Awesome.

Zomramen

I'm a life long fan of ramen noodles, I've been eating them since I was a child and still relish in a good bowel of the salty noodles. When I was a kid, for some reason I believed they were expensive as it took a good deal of begging to get my mom to get me some at the grocery. Later when I was older I discovered just how cheap they were and went nuts buying as many as I could! I guess my mom just didn't feel like making them for me.

They're often joked about as food you eat when you're broke as a pack generally runs about 10-20 cents. To me, that's just an extra plus as I can easily put away a dozen packages in a sitting without thinking. I was often ridiculed in college as my roommate and I would come up with various dishes to make with the noodles. Being broke and under employed, you some times had to get creative to come up with different meals for not a lot of money. We'd find various web sites with recipes and come up with out own sharing them online. It was fun despite the teasing by others.

Turns out, we were actually making them correctly. You see, while the noodles are a fast and easy lunch, they are intended to be instant noodles to make a ramen dish at home. If you ever order a ramen dish at a restaurant, you'll find that the noodles serve as a base for meat, vegetables, and other food items creating a tasty filling meal. While I still often just eat the noodles straight with just the flavor packets, I do occasionally enjoy using them to make myself an amateur ramen dish at home.

Zomramen is a newer variety of noodles hitting the scene with a bit of a gimmick, they're crazy colored and feature a zombie bear as a cute mascot! While the pictures I'm providing don't show it, included in each packet is a little card with a mini comic featuring the bear! That's super neat. I've noticed while looking around the internet for information regarding the noodles I've found various ramen plates made to have fun with the zombie theme. The company in fact encourages it!

This makes for a fun and spooky lunch that is just right for the Halloween season. I discovered the noodles from watching Japanese vending machine videos (a guilty pleasure of mine) and have been curious to try some ever since. I've seen a few options for ordering, but I'm hoping to score some at H-Mart or even the Japanese grocery store near me. Despite already being a fan of anything Halloween, despite ramen noodles being one of my favorite foods, and despite being a sucker for anything like this... I don't know where I was going with that sentence. Zomramen is super cool and I want to try it sometime.

Monsters Cafe

I've been thinking lovingly about Universal Studios (this happens regularly throughout the day) and also about Universal Monsters (this also happens regularly throughout the day). Being Halloween and all, I felt it fit to talk about my favorite restaurant at the park (Krusty Burger comes in a close second though).

Monsters Cafe is located near Shrek 4D building not far away from the entrance of the park and is wonderful. First of all, the place is decked out with Frankenstein and all his pals. Not just that cool sign on the building and neat-o statue that grabs your attention before you get close. Inside the restaurant, you're immediately greeted by dioramas of the monsters behind glass. Well done, true to scale representations of the gang right there in your face. However, this is more than a cool sign and a few displays. The inside of the restaurant's seating is separated into different sections inspired by each monster. Yes, you can eat a pizza in Dr Frankenstein's lab. Yes, you can have a salad in the Creature from the Black Lagoons boating dock. You can have chicken tenders at the Wolfman's crib. Or if you're like me, you can eat a monster burger in Dracula's Castle.

A Monster Burger? Oh yeah mofo, a monster burger (that's actually just what I call it, because I'm fun to be around). Picture this, a big ol burger with not just cheese and lettuce... BUT PULLED PORK BBQ! While I would have happily enjoyed a lounge or a museum of sorts dedicated to the Universal Monsters, a restaurant with really good food is something I desire even more on vacation. Monsters Cafe is a Quick Serve restaurant, so if you have that dinning plan, it's totally compatible (and I'm a burger and fries kinda guy).

While I'm not sure exactly when I'll be able to make it back to the extra most best-est place in the universe (hopefully 2019, we're planning to do a Halloween vacation at Disney World next year), I know exactly where I want to eat!
