Beast Morphers, Unleash The Wacky Wall Beast

Hey, know how I was at the Dollar Tree the other day? Well, I also got some more Wall Walkers. I had been getting the Transformers variety and if I liked current WWE performers (I don't) I'd probably grab some of those. They're a silly fun blind bag toy for a buck each. I didn't expect to see Beast Morphers in the selection and the surprise of it made me shit my pants. Not literally, I'm joking. You gave to spell things out for people sometimes.

I grabbed four packs. These aren't the kind of blind bag I go crazy over and try to complete the set. These are the kind I'll grab a couple of and hope I don't get too many doubles. Speaking off, I'm like 4 ghosts away from completing the Scooby-Doo Playmobil series and each new shelf box has new codes... it's pretty frustrating. Dammit. Just like the others in the Wall Walker toys at Dollar Tree, the Beast Morpher versions are colored plastic with decals to distinguish each character. The body shape of the walker doesn't look too silly on the Power Rangers as they're people in spandex normally. In fact they make for pretty good representations.

I got two Blaze's, one Roxy, and one Blue Ranger. Not bad. If I were to get two of a Beast Morpher, I'd rather it be Blaze. I like him the most out of the characters. His bat armor looks cool. Just like the Transformers versions, I'll be grabbing a few of these on trips in the Dollar Tree. I've really liked Beast Morphers, it's in it's mid-season break of it's last season. I'm sure I'll enjoy Dino Fury next year, but currently I'm just not as excited for it as I've been for Beast Morphers. Guess I'll just have to throw it to the wall and see if it sticks.

Beast Morphers has came back for it's second season and boy are my arms tired. Wait, what? Anyway, the gangs back for a new season and it's a welcome one. Beast Morphers has been really fun so far and something I like to see continue. One of my favorite characters of the first season was Blaze. Blaze was far from the first 'bad guy' Ranger, but it's a trope I've always enjoyed. Admittedly what I liked best was his costume. Using Enter's Dark Buster suit from Go Busters, Blaze looked like some futuristic vampire from a 16 bit Konami game.

I'd put a spoiler warning here, but the information's been spread far and wide since the end of season one. Blaze returns in season two as Robo Blaze using Enter's regular outfit. The costume is absolutely awesome, and now he matches Roxy's use of the Escape costume. Frankly, I prefer the season one costume. My love of spooky shit is no secret and the bat theme made for a great Halloween themed ranger. Robo Blaze does look cool though. Instead of that great bat theme, he looks more at home in the King's Musketeers under the lead of Luis the XIII. Not to mention, I like the goggles he and Roxy sport.

Robots and Rangers

This weekend a new episode of Cyberverse premiered on CN as well as Beast Morphers returning from it's mid-season hiatus. Cyberverse continues to be great. I really like how the shorter time of the episodes keeps the story tight without much filler. Sure, filler time can be great when used right. They can expand on characters, do some world building, that kind of thing. But honestly, the bite sized Cyberverse allows for more direct story telling and more punchy action. Which I really like. At this point Transformers doesn't need to be re-established, so the core concept is usually enough to drive the action. Fortunately the first season did enough of the world building to make it work. Cyberverse is essentially core concept Transformers as is, probably more of the reason I like it. There's been too much over convolution and unnecessarily over complicating things in Transformers as is. Thank goodness for simplification.

Beast Morphers is a great Power Rangers show. Really fun and well written (for the most part) show obviously intended for children, but still enjoyable for a middle aged dork. I really enjoy the setting of Grid Battle Force and the overall vibe of the show. Considering the tradition of PR holiday specials, I'm really curious about how their Halloween specials will work out. I really like the action figures being made. While not premium figures, they're still super nice. You have to wonder if Hasbro is making a point to make the toys so nice as it's essentially their first go with the brand. Or maybe they'll just have great Ranger toys.

Beast Morphers first season recap

The new episodes of Beast Morphers are set to debut this coming weekend and I'm certainly looking forward to them. They've already begun airing in other countries, but as usual, I'm content to wait for them to come on my local channels so I can watch them from my DVR. With Rangerstop Orlando around the corner, I can't help but to hope Rangerstop Atlanta 2020 is announced soon. I sure had fun this past summer and would like to do that again!

Beast Morphin Time

It's here!

After the long wait since it's reveal last year, Beast Morphers is finally on TV and soon on toy shelves. Zone Base readers know I've been really excited for this series and rest assured my DVR is set to record each episode. Currently my plan is to talk about the show on this months episode of Transform Squadron, but you know I'm all hyped up and just can't wait.

Images of the figures keep coming out and man they look great. Hasbro has really knocked it out of the park so far with these toys. They look awesome and I'm looking forward to see them hanging from the pegs at my local stores. I'm surprised to find the general foot solder for the bad guys, Tronic, to be whom I'm most interested in in the first wave.

It's hard not to love the way that looks. Those neat hand weapons, that sharp pink contrasting against the gray, and that fantastic silver mask. It's just a great look that translates well into an action figure. So far Beast Morphers is falling into the same mental category for me as a Konami arcade game in the early 90's. Just that same rad mix of colors and electricity in a crazy beat 'em up sci fi fantasy. It's so hard not to like this early going in, I can only hope a year from now it continues this trend. It's hard not to like a mojo like this.

If it's a tiny rubber toy in a blind box, you know I'm sold

I'm really antsy for the Micro Morphers and Playskool toys to come as that's likely the bulk of where my Ranger toy buying will be. The variety of Ranger characters and generations in what's one of my favorite type of toy to buy is impossible to resist. I can see a weekend where I just drop 20-30$ on Micro Morphers, come home, and open them while watching Rangers on Netflix or Tubi. If you follow me on Instagram, you'll see these adventures take place most likely. Ultimately it's looking like a great time is on the horizon and a great time is something I always have the time for.

Earlier today more news on the Hasbro Power Rangers figures found it's way out, this time for Beast Morphers! It's been a bit of a struggle to wait for Beast Morphers and a little unfair to Super Ninja Steel. I guess that's normal when something you're really excited for is on the horizon. Judging by the listings, the figures will be 6 inches, which isn't too far from prior Rangers figures. Personally I was hoping for 3 3/4 scale or smaller, but no biggie. Part of me wonders if they'll be similar to current Marvel figures. That wouldn't be too bad as they are really solid looking figures with neat accessories. Actually, thinking about the Black Panther figures and things like it's vehicles...if that's the case, that's not bad. It's nice to be this excited for something, and honestly it's a little joy over seeing the word 'beast' in a title. I got just as joyous when Transformers did the Beast Hunters series (fortunately I really liked those).

Beast Morphicon

I've never been to a Power Morphicon, I don't know if I'll ever get to, but man this year looks like the one to be at. With Hasbro now in control, there is just so much excitement and hope for Beast Morphers that it's at near atomic levels. I've been seeing these con exclusive pins and wow they look cool. My wife collects Disney pins, so I can't help but to notice pins as is, but you can't deny how great they look.

It's Beast Morphin Time!

The Las Vegas Licensing Expo is currently going on and this is something that always catches my eye. I'm a sucker for licensed good and tie in products. Being the amount of action figures I go over here, that should come as no surprise. This expo is where a lot of the magic that goes into the stuff we buy and watch happens. It's super neat. While lots and lots of brands are out on display, of particular note so far to me has been the Power Rangers Beast Morphers display featuring a trailer of the show. The trailer is a cobbled together bunch of action scenes from Go-Busters! (the source material for Beast Morphers) set to music (which the video has no audio as it's probably just some current popular songs and being hosted on YouTube the poster obviously doesn't want to get flagged) to sell the idea next to some displays featuring the Rangers and logo with some descriptions of the series.

What I find morphenominal is how the overall vibe of the series is presented here. It's not too far removed from Go-Busters!, so here's hoping the PR version will stay pretty close. It's just plain slick and I think in today's world of everything having a forced gritty vibe (as edgy as a 14 year old in an ICP t-shirt), slick sci fi with bright colors is a most welcome change of pace.

Beast Mode

Despite all the cool stuff for Shattered Grid going around (man, I'd love that Lord Drakkon figure... or an Imaginext of him... actually that'd be awesome) I've been more focused on developments from Beast Morphers. The entire Hasbro involvement has really caught my attention and I'm super interested in how things will go. I still have the back half of Super Ninja Steel to go before I even get to this show that won't even air until a year from now, and I'm in no rush for the year to fly by, but man I'm really focused on this. So I've started taking note of the casting calls for the show and comically enough saw one with the typo Power Rangers Beast Mode (which isn't too bad of a name) that I wish I could find again to link to. One that really caught my eye was this one . 

While Hasbro has the master toy license from Beast Morphers going forward, they haven't acquired the IP yet. Yet the show is listed as a Hasbro/Nickelodeon production instead of a Saban/Nickelodeon production. I don't know if this is a typo like the prior mentioned Beast Mode (really wish I saved that link) or perhaps news that hasn't come to light yet. Either way, it's interesting.

My growing excitement for Beast Morphers is probably ridiculous. But it goes along with something of a theory I've been forming. Maybe more of an idea. A belief. A thought, perhaps. I've noticed with Cyberverse's smaller line, no previews of War for Cybertron, movies simmering down after Bumblebee, Hasbro's scaling back a little on Transformers. I figured this would happen eventually, sure a weirdo like me can't get enough, but the rest of the world was bound to cool on them eventually.

The Last Knight made a respectable amount of money, but not as much as expected. The signs are there and it's good that it isn't devastating and fortunately Transformers isn't going away, but obviously is slowing down a touch. Time will tell exactly how much, but the signs are there. With Hasbro acquiring the Power Rangers toy license and possibly the brand as a whole, I wonder if there's thought at a corporate level to branch out more. Get a little more experimental. Do something different. Different is good.

It's no secret that the news of Hasbro getting Power Rangers was a collective explosion of happiness online. I know the grass behind me is still on fire.

I can't and will not lie, I'm really excited for Beast Morphers. So excited that even though I'm still enjoying Super Ninja Steel, I'm looking past it a little. It's an entire year away,  so I really need to ground myself, but dude...

Collective thinking

With the news from Toy Fair today, it was hard to not stay in good spirits. Most of my news intake came in spurts as I had a somewhat busy day. I work overnight and had a few chores to do before getting some sleep. Upon waking up I caught up with the various news from the show in between a lunch run to Krystal (my favorite fast food restaurant). In the evening a friend came over to shoot for a Toylanta video as well as some footage for a Transformers fan documentary he's working on. He's got more shooting to do, so I'm looking forward to future segment filming as it was fun.

As far as my thoughts from the show, I thought it best to just compile the so far thought below.

Transformers:

Looks like the movie series reboot isn't as hard as it was initially reported. John Warden casually mentioned that reports were a little off base. My theory is that they'll follow the Bumblebee movies lead. I feel like it's along the same line as the newer X-Men movies that did a soft reboot with a younger cast. I'm fine with that.

Seems that Generations will return in 2019 with the new War for Cybertron trilogy planned. Not an adaption of the old game, but along the same idea of a pre-Earth Transformers adventure. Really excited for that, I'm always for that setting. I'm guessing it's going to run in tandem with the movie studio series toys as a line for older collectors.

Cyberverse continues to look fun, though my initial impressions of the Scouts were wrong. Seems like they don't have a full alt mode and they transform into a simple play mode. Not the new Legend class I took them to be, so I guess time will tell how my Cyberverse buying works out.

*edit* It's finally been confirmed that they do have full alt modes, so I think my original plan now lives again. Really wish news sites would have been clearer on that.

Hasbro announced their first Power Rangers series starting in April 2019, BEAST MORPHERS! I'm extremely excited for this as Hasbro just just just IT'S MORPHIN TIME!!!!!!!

An adaption of the awesome Go Busters, Beast Morphers looks to be a good time on the way. Not to mention the hopeful rumors of crossover with TF, my favourite being reuse of Transformers molds in PR similar to Takara using TF molds in Brave. I have no words, this is amazingly exciting.
