The Hat Trick

One Halloween tradition of mine is something I call the Hat Trick. I'll eat at least one box of every Monster Cereal that year. Back before they were seasonal, I ate them regularly. Their return every fall is highly anticipated each year. Part of what makes the Hat Trick so fun is that there's other Halloween cereals. So I make a plan and work in as many as possible... or at least the ones I want to. Unfortunately Fruit Brute isn't returning this year, that's a shame. He's a good one.

Monsters with KAWS

I greatly lament the change from an all year to seasonal that the Monster Cereals underwent some time ago. I love them so. That being said, every year I make a point to eat plenty of the gang as they reappear on stores shelves for a limited time. Each time they do something different and I appreciate that. It's fun. Last year General Mills collaborated with artist KAWS for box art of the gang in his trademark style. Each box also contained a code that could be entered for a chance to win a set of the gang in the vein of old school cereal prizes. Guess who won a set? The classic trio and Fruit Brute are represented here matching their KAWS designs and look great. The only thing that could make this better would be including  Yummy Mummy and the newest Monster Cereal character Carmella Creeper.

New Week Extreme!

Holy crap, it's Monday again. Of course that means another week here on Planet Zone! I hope everyone had a good weekend, I did and I'm personally pissed off that it's over! Saturday we ate at my Mom's house with my brother's family. It was a nice BBQ dinner! Afterwards the Mrs and I went to Walmart and Home Depot for various needed stuff. While out, I picked up Toxitron Collection Mirage and Laser Cycle! Just two more to go! I also grabbed Mutant Mayhem Raphael, just one more to go before the teams complete! Apparently the mini Super Mario Bros movie figures have gotten new toys. I got Tanookie suit Mario and one of the new 3.0 Bakugan figures. Which one? I forgot his name! Dammit! I aslo got Monster Cereal, it's officially Halloween!

While at Mom's house I was gifted a WWE Superstars Undertaker figure. This is the line that Mattel replaced Masters of the WWE Universe figures with. Same MOTU style figures, but in their classic gimmicks. The Mrs and I enjoyed a late supper while watching Cobweb on Amazon Video. It's a fun new Halloween themed horror movie. Really good, but the ending reeked of studio involvement. You know, when suddenly it feels like another movie all together?  Sunday morning we had french toast before taking the Mrs to Bed Bath and Bodyworks and a stop for me at Barnes and Nobles. 

I intended to get some Kitaro manga, however none was to be found. So instead I got a book of Japanese ghost stories. August is ghost season over in Japan and other Asian countries. I love all the stories that come from Obon and Hungry Ghost Festival each year. It's only appropriate to indulge in a little yokai fun. Not to mention, I just like Barnes and Nobles. Well, I got a fun week planned for all of you. Thank you so much for reading Zone Base. The Most Yummy Of Mummies

I grew up with the Monster Cereals as an all year delicacy. It wasn't until I was an adult that they became a seasonal thing only to be sold at Halloween. I was pretty pissed off as they were beloved and just the thing to sit in front of the TV with a bowl of. My favorite was Yummy Mummy, the more odd man out of the group. Like Fruit Brute he's generally forgotten about these days, but not by real ones. I have no clue what it means when you say 'real one'. I'm not imaginary, so I'm assuming I'm a real one. This year the Monster Cereals have a new addition, 'Monster Mash' which is a sort of combination of them all. I haven't found a box yet, but I've gotten some Franken Berry at the local Walmart. Weird, but as soon as I do, you can be sure that I'll... uh... be buying a box... damn straight.
