Mobile Doozy Gobot

I recently got the Mobile Change Haro toys that I've talked about earlier. This lead me down a weird rabbit hole that I thought would make a good post here. I might be wrong about that, it might be a terrible post. Either way, it's a post and it's here. I've talked about Doozy Bots before, but just in case you're not in the know- Doozy Bots was an early 90's attempt to bring Gundam to the US. It would have used SD Gundam designs and had a new cartoon that was pretty similar to cartoons like Captain N that were popular at the time. Let's watch the pitch reel again.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I would have loved this. I know me, and I remember the me I was then. Doozy Bots would have and likely still be my jam. I like Gundam, but I'm not super invested in the fiction. It's mostly thinking the robots are cool. I'll buy a toy or Gunpla and play the occasional game because I like the robots. I don't follow the cartoons super heavy though. I did really like SD Gundam and can tell I would have loved Doozy Bots. I would still love Doozy Bots. So, what if Doozy Bots would have actually happened? Like... say there was a timeline or there's an alternate timeline going on right now... and these way cool Mobile Change Haro figures are newer Doozy Bots toys... whoa...

This month Rob remembered he had a podcast and reintroduces it after a year off. Not long afterward he talks about when Transformers were first coming out, Tonka stopping Mighty Orbots toys, and Gobots that almost was. All that and… that’s it this month on Transform Squadron.

Animated is 12 years old... wow

The other day (I'm a little late) marked the 12 year anniversary of Transformers Animated's debut. It's kind of hard to believe it's been 12 years... but easy to believe it's been 12 years of the movies which overshadowed Animated during it's run. It was a really great show that you can still watch today on DVD or various streaming services (I use Tubi). The intro is always a treat as the Mighty Orbots homages are in full view. Though, even with that, I do think the Japanese intro is a lot better. It's just so damn epic and impossible to deny that theme song.

Broots/Mighty Orbots pilot

I've been on a bit of a Mighty Orbots kick the past few days. It was one of my first robot shows and something I've always held on a high pedestal. One of the things my wife got me for Christmas was a DVD set of the show which I was most grateful for. There's plenty of unlicensed episodes available (and usually streaming), but having a legit release was something I'd rather have. I spent quite a bit of time watching the set on New Years Day (I did plan on taking some pictures of toys for the site, but that got postponed for this weekend... taking a break sure was nice). Man, it could be just me, but the show is just as good now as it was then. One of my favorite parts is and was the announcer with the occasional funny line.

While thinking back on watching the show Saturday mornings with my older brother, I remembered this clip of the show pilot when it was to be called Broots. Since recent viewings are fresh in my mind, it's kind of neat just how similar the show worked out to the pilot. Sure some of the designs got refined and you just can't convince me that Broots is a better name (because it's not). Though I do like the idea of them being a band.

I really wish fate would have went another way with Mighty Orbots as the toys never came out and the show got canceled. I don't know if it would have had the same longevity as Transformers, but I'd like to think it deserves to be more well known.

I'm sure my regular readers are probably noticing the lack of postings the past few days, and as you can probably guess it's due to the holidays. I didn't make a programing note post as I figured most people would have figured that out on their own already (folks stay pretty busy themselves this time of year). I did carve out a little time to refresh the sites look which usually I do around this time of the year. I tried to keep the same overall space station arcade look, but went neon space arcade. Because I like neon, arcades, and space. I'm probably the only person who sees it because I'm crazy.

Where was I?

Oh yeah, some of the things I plan to do during this long holiday weekend (I had one for Christmas and now one for New Years with a few work days in between... I have no clue what day it is right now as result) is watch the Mighty Orbots DVD set my wife got me for Christmas and some episodes of Godmars (since they're super similar looking) that's been on my watch list for a while. Since I got a metric ton of cool stuff for Christmas, I plan on breaking out the light tent for some good picture posts of some (just some) of the neato toys I got for Christmas. That and play some of the great arcade games that came on this neat retro game console my wife got me. I also plan to play some Monster Hunter. Because I like Monster Hunter and got the newest game for my Switch with some gift card money on boxing day. I know you're concerned.
