Weekly Update 8/29/22

That new SD Gundam game has had me thinking a lot about Doozy Bots lately. I absolutely would have loved Doozy Bots... I need to get that game! Speaking things I need to get, it's time to get... *ahem* It's a new week here on Planet Zone!

The Mrs and I took in quite a bit of new Halloween merchandise at Target and Dollar Tree this weekend. It's not all up, but a good bit was! So cool, there's some great new stuff this year. Walmart has a very tiny amount, but more is on the way. We've been watching 'let's shop' videos and as usual our stores are a little behind others. I'm thankful that Walmart and Target seem to be getting back to having most of it ready by Labor Day. In recent years they've gotten away from it, but thankfully not this year. 

As far as toys go, I got a Micro Machines Transformers blind set at Target. They had Star Wars Micro Galaxy Squadron stuff, but I'm holding just a little longer to get some. With all the Transformers out right now, I'm trying to be a little responsible with my spending. I got a Barbatos Lupus Rex Gunpla for a great price at Hobby Lobby. They've got boxed models 40% off currently, not bad!

Walmart I picked up Burn Out and Blurr from the Velocitron Speedia 500 set. Just need Cosmos and Override to get them all! There's more TF out there, but that's all at my stores. After I get reasonably caught up, I'll focus on some other stuff I'm wanting to get. I also got an organization case to store my TF Micro Machines at Hobby Lobby. Little toys demand proper storage. Usually I opt for plastic shoeboxes, but I decided to use the same bead organizers I use for Mega Construx MOTU. 

Hopefully I'll have a new episode of Transform Squadron out this week. If anything it'll be recorded and submitted to TF Radio. Halloween is in full swing here on the Base. RX-78-2 (US) Gundam (American Type)

 

RX-78-2 is pretty much the main Gundam in the overall sceme of things. It's kinda of like the Optimus Prime of Gundam. Ironically Takara copied the head for Convoy, but that's another post. My point is, it's every where when it comes to Gundam. This particular version is a Entry Grade Gunpla sold exclusively at Target. Fictionally it's a statue from Gundam Breaker Battlogue, I like it because it's neat. I'm a fan of oddball variations like Police versions or in this case, an American edition Gundam. So you can see why I was happy to find it included with the gifts from the Mrs at Christmas. 

I mentioned above that this is an Entry Grade model, which means it's a simple kit that can be assembled easily in not a lot of time. I had a good time with my nippers assembling this guy while watching paranormal TV a few weeks back. I also ate a salad, it was exquisite. You probably notice the stickers that match the patriotic colors. They were pretty simple over all and the 'RX' logo on it's right should also came in red. I opted for the blue. I think I put the stripes sticker on the shield upside down. Something I didn't notice until it was too late. Fortunately they look the same regardless. 

This was a fun, simple kit that looks great. The American version is a fun variation that's not too far removed from the standard look of the RX-78-2's. The finished figure after assembly has a good deal of articulation and can be put into a variety of poses. While the simplicity of the build may not appeal to advanced Gunpla folks, it was a fun evening for me.

GAT-X103 Buster Gundam (G Frame)

 

I haven't built a Gundam model in a while and the bug to do so again hit me pretty hard recently. My wife sensed this and bought me a few for Christmas leading us to today's post. I used to build them quite a bit along side Zoids, it's super relaxing to do with the TV on in the background. Gundam is one of those things I don't know a super lot about, but really appreciate as a whole. Going into this G Frame kit, I had assumed it was like other models and got my nippers out only to discover they weren't needed.

Each part is already separated ready to be placed on either the G Frame or display frame. The G Frame being the main reason for my interest in this one. It's a super articulated skeleton that the parts plug into creating a hyper possible figure. The Display Frame is a much more static skeleton for a basic display version of your Gundam. The Display Frame also converts into a stand to show off your figure. Neat huh?

The GAT-X103 Buster Gundam is mainly from the series Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. It's an artillery mobile suit developed by the Earth Alliance G Project. My interest is in those big guns, it looks cool. The Gundam has a backpack that holds them and fold out allowing for dual gun combat. The rifles can then be removed and combined for an extra long sniper rifle. If that wasn't enough, the shoulders also contain missile launchers.

The GAT-X103 Buster Gundam is one cool looking robot with some big ass guns. I'm also a fan of the green and red colors. The G Frame system was fun to play around with and I spent hours doing so with paranormal TV on in the background. It was a good time. I'm definitely going to pick up others in the future.
