Killing in the name of Milton Bradley

Scary board games are always fun during the spooky season (or any time), especially in the company of good people with a horror marathon going in the background. A particularly fun one is 13 Dead End Drive (or it's follow up, 1313 Dead End Drive). A game where you avoid getting murdered while committing murder. Honestly, it's the game I wanted Clue to be. There's something special about this commercial for the game from 1996. It's got to be hard to sell a game about murder to a family friendly audience. Playing it safe be damned, they outright killed a bunch of puppets on TV. Talk about truth in advertising.

Weekly Halloween~ Ouija for kids!

I've talked about board game manufacturers dabbling in the occult before, but it's really a long standing tradition. Variations of the talking board date back thousands of years, but none are more famous in the present than the Ouija board. Basic spirit summoning with the risk of opening a portal to hell is available as close as your nearest Target. Even today it has an aura of mystery and a forbidden nature. I guess it's all fun and games until Zozo shows up.

Star Bird

The Star Bird is another one of my older brothers toys that left an impression on me. Sure by the commercial it just looks like a spaceship that could blend in with your Star Wars toys. That's obviously the intent, make a space ship that would grab the eye of all those kids wanting Star Wars stuff. Something about it's design always stuck with me over the years. It's just classic space opera. If you'd take the time to look into the line, you'll find there was two other similar ships and a base available. Pretty cool for what could have been a one and done toy. I used to fly my brothers Star Bird around, shooting down imaginary bad guys and deploying the front section in times that the pilots would need to double their numbers. If it's one line that I'd love to make a  return, even if unofficially, it'd be Star Bird.

Robotix commercial

Sometimes, I wonder if Robotix would make it today. With all sorts of toys controlled via a tablet or phone, I could really see an updated Robotix giving it a shot. Though, without the catchy jingle... I dunno.
